The International Hydrographic Organization is an intergovernmental body established in 1921 and headquartered in Monaco, principally responsible for coordinating the standardization of nautical charts and hydrographic data among its member states. It was founded under the name International Hydrographic Bureau, a designation it retained until 1970, when the current title was adopted following a convention ratified by 48 signatory nations. The organization's headquarters has occupied the same building on Avenue President J.F. Kennedy since 1967, a structure previously used as a regional weather monitoring station for the western Mediterranean.
